Dr. Kristen Stewart, is a Board Certified Dermatologist practicing general and surgical dermatology. Additionally, Dr. Stewart has significant post-doctoral clinical training and expertise in vulvar dermatology, a subspecialty at the intersection of gynecology and dermatology.
As a physician, she continually strives to provide compassionate care that focuses on education so that patients can be empowered to care for themselves. During her early medical training, a close friend of Dr. Stewart’s developed vulvar cancer. It was through her friend’s experience that Dr. Stewart recognized the many obstacles patients with genital skin conditions face and how the unique location of a skin condition in the vulvar area affects multiple aspects of a patient’s life. As a result of this experience, Dr. Stewart sought out specialized training in vulvar dermatology.
Although not often talked about, genital skin disorders are common and can be very distressing. Many women feel too embarrassed to talk about symptoms such as itching, rashes, pain, and bumps in the genital area. Vulvar skin conditions often limit activities and the types of clothing worn as well as affect personal relationships. Woman with genital symptoms often first consult primary care providers, gynecologists, and urologists. However, when the cause is a skin condition, a dermatologist can be integral to the evaluation and treatment.
